Installation SVG Viewer failed

Hello all,

I tried to install SVG Viewer version 3.0, but it failed. I searched
the web and the archives, but couldn't find any information, so I
hope somebody can help me.

This was the error message:

Install failed.
Registry error: The system cannot find the file specified.
Software\Netscape\Netscape Navigator\
Registry error: The system cannot find the file specified.
Software\Adobe\GoLive\5.0
Merge registry file: C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\

I have windows 2000 server, and Internet Explorer version 6.0. I
don't understand the error message, we don't have Netscape Navigator
or Adobe GoLive on this computer (although somebody may have
installed a trial version, but it's not on the computer anymore).

Can anybody advise me what to do? I'm getting a bit desperate...

Irene

Irene,

As I understand it, installation of the Adobe SVG Viewer version 3.0 needs
admin privileges on Windows 2000. That might be the underlying problem.

If you have Windows 2000 server presumably you have someone with admin
privileges? They should be able to install the Adobe viewer if they log on as
admin.

Nobody says that that decision was a wise one on the part of Adobe. It seems
to have caused lots of problems for quite a few people.

I hope that helps.

Hello Andrew,

Thanks for your reply, but I was logged in as administrator... The
installation did start, but failed (when you're not the
administrator, the installation won't even start).

Any other suggestions?

Greetings,

Irene

Hi Irene,

I assume you have already tried this with another copy of the Adobe viewer
download? It doesn't really sound as if that is the problem but it's always
worth a try.

Also did you try to restart the machine and then re-try the install? Again I
wouldn't really expect that to work but I am sometimes amazed at the bizarre
behaviour of Windows that can be fixed by a restart, by which I probably mean
a shutdown and then a fresh switch on.

In your original post you sometimes use "I" and sometimes "we". Is it
possible that some previous admin of this server did some hacking of the
registry?

As you can probably guess I really don't know either the cause or the cure
for your problem. Maybe it would be worth trying to describe the history of
the machine, what it is used for etc. .... I know :) ... I am clutching at
straws.

In my experience the Adobe viewer pretty much "just installs". I have admin
rights so W2K is not a problem.

Sorry not to be of more help.

Regards

Andrew Watt

I had some help from our 'big' administrator, and it's working now.
It seems there was an error in the registry file, and that's fixed
now. I'm not sure what he did to my computer, but whatever he did, it
worked.

Tobi: as the problem was most probably caused by my own computer,
should I still file an error report?

Thanks everybody for your help.

Greetings,

Irene

If the "'big' administrator" says it was something in your sys, and
nothing in ASV, then I wouldn't.
